Tongue Removal
From £35.00 per m²
(Now includes cleaning of the groove-side outer edge)
When parquet flooring is originally installed using bitumen, the adhesive often seeps into the tongue-and-groove (T&G) joints and along the block edges. Over time, dust and debris accumulate in these areas, hardening within the joints and making it difficult to achieve a tight, flush fit when re-laying the blocks.
Even with careful cleaning, it is nearly impossible to remove all traces of bitumen and dirt from the T&G edges. As a result, when re-installing reclaimed T&G parquet blocks—cleaned or not—gaps may remain, requiring the use of filler. Unfortunately, filler is prone to shrinking, cracking, and disintegration over time due to heat and movement.
To avoid these long-term issues, we recommend removing the tongue. This eliminates the problematic joint and allows for a tighter, cleaner fit during installation—without the need for gap-filling.
Before the tongue can be removed, we first clean the outer edge of the groove side. This is essential to ensure each block passes smoothly through our precision machinery.
This edge cleaning is now included in the tongue removal price.
If you would like the ends of the blocks cleaned (in addition to the long groove-side edge), please contact us for a separate quotation.
Please note:
Our tongue removal process does not alter the width of the block or damage the groove profile in any way.
